Picking the healthiest sauce or dressing to add to my food has always been the hardest thing for me to decide when cooking at home. Whether trying to make your own sauce from scratch or picking one up from the store, knowing which ingredients to look for is the most important thing when trying to eat healthy.
There’s so much to know when determining what exactly are the healthiest ingredients for yourself, but the goal of this article is to simplify where to start thinking the next time you’re at the store, restaurant, or staring into your own fridge and wondering what sauce you’re going to add to your food.
Most people think that the healthiest ingredient you can add to your diet is some type of supernutrient or miracle food, but in the typical diet the majority of nutrients we want and need come from the food that we’re adding the sauce to, not the sauce itself. Also, unfortunately, sauces typically contain the majority of the calories, fats, sugars, and additives.
So what’s the healthiest ingredient one can maximize the amount of in their sauces? It’s surprisingly simple: Water.
Now I won’t claim that water is the most nutritious ingredient one can find in a sauce, but when essentially every sauce is water or oil-based, maximizing the water to oil ratio is actually the healthiest choice one can make!
I don’t want you to think that oil is unhealthy, it is absolutely an essential part of our diets; however, it’s unfortunately one of the top items on the “Everything in Moderation'' list and we can get enough in many other ways. But that’s not the point of this article (That’s the point of this article).
So looking for recipes and products that maximize and contain the most whole fruits/vegetables, vinegar, and/or even just water itself should always be the first thing to keep in mind next time you’re planning a meal! But water itself isn’t flavorful, right?
That’s correct, but there’s another type of water-based ingredient that you may have never heard of before: hydrosols.
Hydrosols take the flavor of an ingredient such as chocolate or even strawberries and infuse into water, creating a concentration of fresh, delicious, sugar-free, and calorie-free flavor in nothing but water that’s actually healthy!
Our Hydrosols are made with only whole, natural ingredients and are the easiest, healthiest way to add flavor to any sauce or dressing and can even be added to drinks and desserts!
